You already know just how easy it is to suddenly lose your hard worked on data and while you also know that good data storage practices are a must, we are all human, and you wouldn’t be the only one to neglect making a reliable back up plan.

In a perfect world, you would use a variety of storage options, which would include a physical backup as well as a couple of cloud based ones. But what if you don’t and your data goes missing, or what if you are like many others out there and you are just not all that good at remembering to regularly update your backup?

The solution is to invest in a high quality data recovery system, in the form of software that can be kept on your computer.

These days, there is no reason to lose your data. Either you can commit yourself to a reliable backup storage system for your data or you can have the software system. And if you are really serious about making sure that your valuable data is not lost, you can have both.

Finding the Right Software for your needs

Data recovery software comes in a variety of options and that means it is quite easy to find the right option for your needs as well as for your operating system. Some software is made for Windows while other software is made for Mac. When making your choice it is really important to keep this in mind.

  1. Disk Drill Data Recovery

With this system, the user can easily recover their lost data from both internal and external hard drives. The system works on Mac and Windows, and it has numerous benefits.

Some of the pros of the system includes the ability to support all types of file formats, it has a very accurate recovery system, it has a data protection capabilities, and it can recover up to 500MB of data for free.

  • PhotoRec

Ideal for Windows, Linux, and Mac, this recovery system is the perfect option for photos, as you can probably tell by the name. The system is able to recover some 300 different types of files but overall it can be a little bit intimidating for those new to such a system. The good news is that the system is free.

  • Recuva

A system perfect for Windows users, Recuva is available in both a free version and paid for one, and it is able to recover files from memory cards, iPods, MP3 Players, USB sticks, and hard drives. The downside of the software is that it doesn’t support as many file versions as other recovery systems out there.

  • R-Studio

For those who have a bit more experience, this is a great option. With R-Studio, you will have access to a disk-sanitation feature, as well as bootable ISO image. Because this system is a little more on the technical side, it is marketed to those who work in a professional environment, making it ideal for the office.

  • Stellar Data Recovery

Unlike all of the other data recovery systems out there, Stellar Data Recovery is incredibly well organised and that does make it one of the best out there for the novice. With this system you can recover data from a crashed system, even if it is not booting, and it supports all kinds of devices, while also having a preview system.

The downside of this system is that it is quite expensive, although with so many features, that should be understandable.

If you are on the lookout for a reliable data recovery system, and you are looking for professional help in finding the right one, you can contact our team at 24/7 IT Services. We offer helpful IT consultancy and IT infrastructure services for our extensive client base.

The Cloud is the software that has changed the way that we work in an office environment. Not only are some programmes accessible via the Cloud to make work possible, but the day’s work is generally backed up to the Cloud for safe keeping.

After many months of work, you can imagine that the sheer amount of documents you are going to have stored away. Some you will need, most you won’t, but should you accidently delete a file while sorting through your data, knowing how to restore the document is going to save you a lot of grey hairs.

One of the biggest bonuses of using a Cloud account for your work backup is that whatever you are working on will be easily accessed and easy to continue working on, no matter where you are.

And so it doesn’t matter what device you are using to access your Cloud storage, the restoration process is fairly straight forward.

The Cloud is designed to keep your data and files safe, so even if you do accidently delete something, it is not going to be gone forever, at least not yet. The Cloud is designed to hold deleted documents in a waste basket of sorts for 30 days. Naturally, this makes restoring the document incredibly easy, if you know where to find it.

Locating Deleted Files

Ideally, you should restore the items as soon as you’ve made the mistake of deleting them, or as soon as you have noticed that they have gone missing. Once the 30 day mark has passed, the file is permanently gone and there will be nothing you can do to bring it back unless, of course, you have a backup of it somewhere else.

On the topic of backups, you should never rely on the Cloud alone as your primary backup. It is good data practice to have alternative backups, including a copy kept on an external hard drive kept somewhere very safe and secure.

To locate the recently deleted Cloud data, you first need to know which version of the Cloud you are using. You could be using the iCloud, Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox.

iCloud

You will need to log into your iCloud account and then choose the recently deleted option, which should be on the bottom right corner. You then need to go to the Account Settings and from there you can select Restore Files.

Google Drive

Google’s Cloud is very popular especially because it syncs fast and effectively across multiple devices, no matter the device manufacturer. It is also incredibly easy to restore accidently deleted documents. Simply scroll down the left hand panel and select trash. There you will be able to see all the trashed documents and be able to right click and select restore.

OneDrive

Depending on the type of OneDrive account you have, your deleted files could be held for up to 93 days. The standard account has the 30 day limit while the work account option gives you the extra time.

To restore a deleted file, you will need to go to the recycle bin, which you will find on the left hand side. There is the option of emptying the bin or restoring all the items, and you can also individually select the file you need and restore it.

Dropbox

As far as free Cloud storage goes, Dropbox is quite a useful thing to have. If you take on the business plan or the professional plan, your deleted files can be stored for 180 days before they are permanently removed.

When you need to restore something you’ve deleted, you need to go to the deleted files option which you can find on the left side or you can go to the folder where the file was originally stored and click on the show deleted files option. From there you can restore it.
